Gleispark Frintrop, Public park in Frintrop district, Essen, Germany.
Gleispark Frintrop is a public park in the Frintrop district of Essen created from a former railway site. The grounds feature walking paths through birch forests, meadows with wild roses, and open areas with evening primrose and goldenrod flowers.
The site operated as a freight railway yard until 1987, when Deutsche Bahn ended operations. In 1998, the Ruhr Regional Association took over the land and transformed it into a park.
The park is part of the Route of Industrial Culture and shows how a railway site became a natural space. Visitors can experience this transformation while walking between flowering meadows and birch forests.
The park is easy to explore on foot, with marked paths for walking and cycling in various directions. Guided tours and special evening walks start from Haus Ripshorst for visitors interested in nature.
The compacted soil created by decades of heavy freight trains supports specialized pioneer plants and various butterfly species. These organisms thrive in the unusual ground conditions that developed during the railway's operating years.
