Rendsburg Loop, Steel railway bridge in Rendsburg, Germany
The Rendsburg Loop forms a complete circular track that connects the Rendsburg High Bridge with the local train station over the Kiel Canal.
Engineers constructed this elevated spiral railway in 1913 to enable trains to manage the height difference between the station and the 42-meter-high bridge.
The railway structure influenced the surrounding district's name, which residents and officials designated as Schleife after the loop configuration.
The railway loop allows northbound trains to ascend gradually to the High Bridge while southbound trains can safely descend to reach Rendsburg station.
This engineering creation stands as the first railway loop constructed on flat terrain, a design typically found in mountainous regions.
