Störtebeker Park is a recreation area with various play sections, water features, and environmental learning zones in northern Wilhelmshaven. The grounds offer different stations and attractions spread across an open landscape where children can climb, play, and explore.
The park grew from an idea of the non-profit BeKA, founded in 1984, and opened in the early 1990s on a two-hectare site provided by Wilhelmshaven. Replicas of regional buildings such as Sibetsburg and the Wilhelmshaven town hall invite visitors to explore local history. Timber-framed buildings host activities, events and seminars.
The park brings families and school groups together through play and outdoor time spent in shared spaces. This kind of place is important for the local community as it offers children a setting where play and nature connect.
The park lies on Freiligrathstraße in the north of Wilhelmshaven, on a site of about two hectares. It is open during the summer season, from April to October. Volunteers make longer opening hours possible beyond the regular ones.
The grounds integrate systems for natural water filtering where children can see how rainwater is cleaned. These working examples show how environmental technology functions in real life and make sustainability understandable.
