Grube Amalienhöhe, Cultural heritage mine in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Grube Amalienhöhe is a former mining facility on Stöckert hill northeast of Waldalgesheim with several preserved buildings from its operational years. The site comprises residential quarters, administrative offices, a social hall, and additional structures arranged around a central courtyard.
Operations began in 1887 and continued extracting manganese ore for steel production until 1971. This mining activity shaped the valley for more than eighty years before the ore deposits became economically unviable.
The buildings reflect the social divisions of mining operations, with separate structures for workers' accommodation, management offices, and social gathering spaces. These arrangements reveal how daily life and work were organized within the mining community that worked here.
Visitors can observe the buildings from outside, viewing them from the central courtyard area since interiors are not open to the public. There are no special facilities on site, so plan time to explore the exterior and grounds at your own pace.
A cooling pond in the courtyard served the industrial processes needed to handle ore extraction and processing. This surviving feature lets visitors grasp the practical demands of running such a mining operation.
