Grube Eisenberg

Grube Eisenberg is a former iron mine with underground passages running through multiple levels that show different extraction methods. The site preserves original machinery and equipment that workers used to extract iron ore.

The mine was established to extract iron ore deposits from the Sauerland region and helped drive industrial growth in the area. It played an important role during Germany's major iron production period in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Mining shaped how people in this region lived for centuries. Today you can see in the displays how miners worked and what tools they relied on.

The underground areas are only accessible with a guide, and it helps to gather information beforehand and prepare for cool temperatures. Solid footwear and warm clothing matter because conditions underground stay cool throughout the year.

Visitors can walk through original tunnel sections that show how the mine actually operated underground. Walking through these passages gives a direct sense of the conditions miners faced during their daily work.
