Glasebach Pit

Glasebach Pit is a former mining operation near Straßberg with preserved tunnels, extraction equipment, and exhibitions about mineral production. The site displays techniques and tools used across several centuries in this region.

The operation began around 1400 and was originally called 'Trust in God'. It extracted fluorite and silver for the counts of Stolberg until the 1960s.

The site shows how miners worked under difficult conditions across generations and passed down their skills to one another. This work shaped the identity of people in the region and connected them to the story of the Harz.

Tours are organized by the East Harz Mining Society and guide visitors through underground tunnels. The visit requires steady footing and awareness of underground mining conditions.

The museum preserves a wooden drainage outlet from the Lower Kilian Dam that underwent extensive restoration by Harzwasserwerken in Clausthal-Zellerfeld. This restored object shows the technical effort needed to manage water in mining operations.
