Grube Tannenberg

Grube Tannenberg is a show mine in the Saxon Ore Mountains where visitors descend into old tunnels to see equipment and mineral deposits. The passages go several meters underground and show actual mining conditions.

The mine developed from the search for tin, which has been extracted in this region for centuries. This industry shaped the economic development of the Ore Mountains landscape.

The tours show how miners worked underground and what tools they used every day in their job. You can see how tight and physically demanding this work was.

Access to the tunnels requires good footwear and comfort in tight underground spaces. It is wise to dress warmly, as the tunnels stay cool year-round.

The mine is located at a higher elevation than other visitor mines in the area. This position provides unusual views of rock layers that are not as clearly visible elsewhere.
