Riesenbecker Berg, Mountain summit in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Riesenbecker Berg is a mountain summit in the western Teutoburg Forest north of Riesenbeck, rising 134 meters above sea level. The mountain is accessible via a staircase with 256 steps that leads to a viewing platform at 116 meters elevation.
The mountain became a battlefield during World War II in April 1945 and later became the location of a German military cemetery with 130 graves. This final resting place serves as a reminder of the intense fighting that took place in the region during the final weeks of the war.
Between 1725 and 1761, four Stations of the Cross were installed along the mountain path, establishing a religious procession route for Good Friday.
The viewpoint is easily accessible via paved paths and stairs, and the platform offers open views across the surrounding landscape and toward Münster city. Visitors should be aware that weather can change quickly at this exposed location.
The viewing platform received its name 'Schöne Aussicht' from a German woman on her last day before emigrating, and the site gained monument protection status in October 1999. This personal story connects with the modern preservation status, making the place culturally meaningful for visitors.
