Botanischer Garten Loismann, Private botanical garden in Ibbenbüren, Germany.
Botanischer Garten Loismann is a private botanical garden south of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, displaying over one hectare of evergreen conifers, exotic trees, climbing plants, and medicinal specimens. The plantings are organized systematically with scientific nomenclature throughout the space.
In 1898, a farmer named Loismann started planting fruit trees on excavated material from the Dortmund-Ems Canal construction. This initial planting gradually developed into the botanical garden visible today.
The garden displays plants with their scientific names and detailed labels, helping visitors learn about the different species and how to identify them.
The garden is located south of the Dortmund-Ems Canal and operates from April to October with free entry. Parking is available at Loismannweg for visitors.
Water for the plants travels a long distance: the original owner installed a 1.5-kilometer water pipeline from the Teutoburg Forest. This historic pipeline continues to supply fresh water to the garden today.
