Schloss Allmendingen, Cultural heritage monument in Allmendingen, Germany.
Schloss Allmendingen is a three-story castle with two corner towers located in the center of Allmendingen and connected to the New Castle via a corridor. The building features rooms and structural elements that reflect its evolving use across centuries.
The castle was built in 1593 and changed hands several times, from the Renner family through the city of Ehingen to Hans Walter von Freyberg zu Altheim. These transfers reflect the shifting political and economic circumstances of the region.
The castle displays architectural features that reflect the shift from medieval fortified structures to residential buildings, with its distinctive Krüppelwalmdach roof design marking the transition. Visitors can observe these elements from outside and notice the design details characteristic of this building period.
The castle is now private property of the Freyberg family and can only be viewed from outside, with visitors required to respect the perimeter boundaries. Take time to observe the exterior architecture and its connection to the New Castle from different angles.
The east side of the castle originally featured a drawbridge leading to a paved courtyard with a fountain, surrounded by moats on all sides. These water defenses show that the building was initially designed as a true fortification before becoming a residence.
