Gut Tüschenbek, Medieval estate in Groß Sarau, Germany.
Gut Tüschenbek is an estate in Groß Sarau with a manor house, farmland, and a Gothic-style chapel spread across more than a kilometer. The property sits in the Schleswig-Holstein countryside and is now partly used as corporate offices for an insurance broker.
The estate was first recorded in 1212 as a moated castle owned by the Gronow family and named after its location between two waterways. The current manor house was completed by 1889 under Karl von Hollen.
The manor reflects how northern German nobility built and lived in the late 1800s. Its style shows the taste and wealth of families who controlled these lands for centuries.
The property sits along a main road with the A20 highway running through the farmland, making it accessible by car. Keep in mind that the main building serves as a private office and may not be open to the public.
Until 1866, the estate owners held special judicial powers and could appoint judges for local people. These privileges ended when the territory came under Prussian control.
