Haus-Knipp railway bridge

Haus-Knipp railway bridge, Railway truss bridge in Duisburg, Germany.

The Haus-Knipp railway bridge is a steel truss structure spanning the Rhine between Duisburg-Beeckerwerth and Duisburg-Baerl. The bridge features a distinctive framework design that allows trains to cross the river and connect these two districts.

The bridge first opened for freight traffic in 1912 and was destroyed during World War II. After the war, British pioneers reconstructed it in 1946, restoring it to its original design.

This bridge represents German industrial engineering excellence, serving as a connection point for the transportation network in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The bridge was restored in 2012 to support two railway tracks, allowing both freight and passenger trains to use it simultaneously. Access to the bridge itself is typically not available to visitors since it remains an active railway line.

When it was completed, the bridge's main span stretched 186 meters (610 feet), making it the longest truss span in Europe at that time. This scale represented a remarkable achievement in steel construction engineering.
