Herrenkrug pedestrian bridge, Suspension footbridge in Magdeburg, Germany.
The Herrenkrug pedestrian bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning around 600 meters across the Elbe River and linking different areas of Magdeburg. The design features steel cables supporting the walkway in a distinctive way that makes it recognizable from a distance.
The bridge opened in 1998 as part of infrastructure developed for the Federal Garden Show at Elbarenpark. It represented an important moment in reconnecting different city neighborhoods following German reunification.
The bridge forms a key part of Magdeburg's walking and cycling network, linking residential areas to the city's riverside parks. People use it daily as a natural route through their neighborhoods.
The bridge is open daily for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting several access points to the green spaces along the Elbe. It is advisable to walk carefully in wet conditions, as the surface can become slippery.
During the Federal Garden Show, small shuttle buses operated on the bridge to transport visitors between exhibition areas. After the event ended, it was permanently converted to pedestrian and bicycle use only.
