Lister Tor, Brutalist high-rise in Mitte, Germany
Lister Tor is a brutalist high-rise with 23 floors and a height of 91 meters, constructed from reinforced concrete with strong geometric forms. The structure combines residential units with office space, retail areas, restaurants, and a parking garage near the main train station.
Architect Dieter Bahlo designed the building in 1972, with construction taking place from 1974 to 1975. Dutch construction company Bredero completed this project during Hannover's modern urban development phase.
The building mixes apartments on upper levels with shops and dining venues below. This approach shows how the city wanted to integrate living and working spaces in a single structure.
The building sits next to the main train station, making it easy to reach with convenient underground parking available. Visitors can explore shops and restaurants on the ground floor and view the structure from outside as a recognizable city landmark.
Amateur radio relay stations operate from the rooftop and support local radio enthusiasts. The high-rise also served as a filming location for scenes of the Tatort crime series set in Hannover.
