Hochsteinchen, Mountain summit in Hunsrück region, Germany.
Hochsteinchen is a mountain summit in the Hunsrück region standing at 648 meters and representing the second-highest point in the Rhein-Hunsrück district. A steel observation tower dominates the site, with steps leading visitors to two viewing platforms that offer sightlines across the surrounding landscape.
The observation tower was constructed between 1893 and 1894, making it one of the oldest structures of its kind in the region. The tower has shaped the landscape profile for generations and served as a viewpoint for countless visitors.
The summit serves as a gathering point for hikers exploring the natural landscape of the region. Visitors come here to experience the expansive views and connect with the local terrain.
The climb to the observation tower is well-marked and involves ascending steel steps to reach the two platforms. From the top, clear days reveal views reaching toward the Taunus mountains and across the entire Hunsrück landscape.
Since 2012, eleven wind turbines reaching approximately 200 meters tall have transformed the appearance of the mountain and its neighbors. These modern structures create a contrast at this historic site between the old observation tower and contemporary energy generation.
