Hohe Warte

Hohe Warte is a mountain summit in Thuringia standing at about 765 meters, rising clearly above the Thuringian Forest woodland. An observation tower sits on the peak and allows views over the surrounding landscape.

The current tower was built in 1911 after two earlier structures on this mountain had collapsed. Its construction followed the founding of a local society in 1899 that had gathered funds for the project.

The tower on Hohe Warte has served as a popular destination for walkers and nature lovers from the region for more than a century. The surrounding forests and paths shape how local people spend their free time and connect with the landscape.

Several marked walking trails lead to the summit, including a loop of about 6 kilometers starting from a nearby parking area. The climb is straightforward and the paths are usually well signposted, making it easy to follow the route.

On clear days from the tower you can spot several other well-known peaks and the cities of Gotha and Erfurt in the distance. These far-reaching views make the place a favorite vantage point over the entire region.
