Hohlstein

Hohlstein is a mountain summit in Bavaria that rises to about 1,196 meters and offers multiple viewpoints. From the top, you can look out over the Bavarian Forest National Park and the Reschbachtal valley.

The mountain was once named after a farmer who lived near Hohenau and gave the location an alternative name. This connection to local history has slowly faded from memory over time.

The summit draws hikers from across the region who use the marked trails to make their way up. The pathways and signage show how central this location is to local outdoor recreation.

To reach the summit, follow a stone staircase near Tummelplatz until the final ascent toward the cross. The last section involves some climbing, so wear good hiking boots and come prepared with basic fitness.

The rocky slopes of this mountain shelter rare European ferns and lichens within its rock crevices. These specialized habitats form thanks to the moist mountain air and shaded areas created by the rock formations.
