Steinfleckberg, Mountain summit in Bavaria, Germany
Steinfleckberg is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Forest that rises to 1341 meters and stands surrounded by thick woodland. From the top, hikers can see across the northeastern landscape of Bavaria toward distant ridges.
The area around the mountain was historically used for forestry, with timber floated along waterways for centuries. Martins-Klause reservoir was built in past centuries to support and manage this wood transportation system.
The mountain region follows strict environmental protection measures, limiting access from July to November to preserve local wildlife including the capercaillie population.
Hikers can begin their trek at the Fredenbrücke car park, which is accessible from the B85 road. The route demands good fitness and solid navigation skills as it passes through varied forest terrain and steep sections.
The path between Markfleckl and the summit remains unmarked and passes through Teufelsloch, a dramatic gorge with natural stone formations. Only hikers with strong navigation skills should attempt this challenging section.
