Ilkerbruch, Protected natural area in Wolfsburg, Germany
Ilkerbruch is a nature reserve in northwestern Wolfsburg with wetlands, lakes, reed zones, and forest patches across about 125 hectares. The area offers several observation points, including a tower twelve meters high and a viewing hut, from which visitors can watch birds.
The area gained official protection in 1989 and later joined with neighboring lands in 2021. This connection created a larger continuous habitat for wildlife.
The reserve functions as a place where visitors observe birds and learn about local wildlife. Information boards along the paths show which species live here and how nature works in wetland areas.
Visitors can explore the area on foot with a developed path of about 4.5 kilometers. The best time to watch birds is early morning or late afternoon, when most species are active.
The reserve is one of the few places in the region where white-tailed eagles with wingspans of about 2.5 meters nest. These large raptors are rare and show that the protected area maintains a healthy habitat.
