Schlossturm, Medieval tower in Burgplatz, Düsseldorf, Germany
Schlossturm is a tower on Burgplatz along the Rhine riverbanks and stands approximately 33 meters tall across five levels. The structure displays Tuscan columns and features a distinctive octagonal fourth floor.
The tower was built in 1260 as part of Düsseldorf Castle and kept its first three levels from the 13th century. It underwent numerous renovations and modifications over the centuries.
The Rhine Maritime Museum inside the tower displays ship models and exhibits showing how water transport developed along the river. Visitors can observe how shipping shaped life and commerce in this region.
Visitors can climb to the upper floors and observe modern river vessels on the Rhine while enjoying a full view of Düsseldorf. The stairs are steep, so allow time for a gradual pace.
The tower's weathervane features a fire blower figure created in 1957 by Ferdi Walther. This unusual depiction commemorates a major castle fire that occurred nearly a century earlier.
