Jamel, Rural district in Gägelow, Germany
Jamel is a rural district of Gägelow in northwest Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, sitting on hilly ground about 240 feet (74 meters) above sea level. The settlement lies south of Wohlenberger Wiek bay and connects to the nearby village of Gressow through a single road.
The settlement first appears in the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230 under the name Jamene and traces back to Slavic origins. In its early form, it consisted of six farmsteads that shaped the character of the village.
The music festival takes place every summer and draws visitors from different regions who support democratic values. The event has become a regular feature in the regional cultural calendar and receives backing from the state government.
The district is reached via a connecting road to federal highway B105, which runs through Gressow about one and a half kilometers away. Visitors should expect quiet rural roads and gently rolling terrain with mild slopes.
Since August 2016, a memorial field with steles and the sculpture Pyromide by artist Harry Schaffer stands in the district. The installation commemorates important events and forms a notable landmark in the otherwise quiet village landscape.
