Isenburg, Medieval castle ruin in Wildbach, Germany.
Isenburg is a castle ruin near Aue-Bad Schlema situated on a rocky outcrop above the confluence of Wildbach stream and Zwickauer Mulde river. The site displays remaining stone walls and a round tower structure.
The fortress was constructed in the 12th century and served as a defensive stronghold until the 14th century. Afterward it declined and was never rebuilt.
Stone from the castle was reused to build Wildbach's stone church in 1750, linking architectural elements across different generations.
The site is reachable from Hartenstein and lies along walking paths following the Zwickauer Mulde river. The area is freely accessible but offers limited facilities on-site.
The masonry displays a distinctive herringbone pattern created from brick and dressed stone, reflecting construction techniques of that era. The round tower base spans approximately 9 meters in diameter.
