Jüdischer Friedhof

The cemetery features a collection of historic gravestones called Mazewot, arranged across grounds adjacent to the Old Cemetery on Friedhofstraße.

Established in 1647 following the founding of the Jewish community, the cemetery received its final expansion in 1908 with a brick Romanesque mourning hall.

The cemetery contains gravestone inscriptions and decorative elements that reflect traditional Jewish burial practices and memorial customs from the 17th century onwards.

Located at coordinates 52.1094 latitude and 8.66814 longitude, the cemetery maintains protected status as an architectural heritage monument of North Rhine-Westphalia.

During World War II, the original gravestones were removed and later reinstalled in 1960, preserving centuries of Jewish memorial art and genealogical records.
