Warnemünde Lighthouse, Navigation lighthouse in Warnemünde, Germany
Warnemünde Lighthouse is a white brick tower with green stripes that rises 31 meters above the mouth of the Warnow River. Its outer walls are made of natural stone with tile cladding, while a granite spiral staircase inside leads to the lantern gallery.
The lighthouse was built starting in 1897 after decades of negotiations among local and regional authorities. It replaced an older wooden structure and became necessary due to growing shipping traffic in the Baltic.
The tower displays the historic coat of arms of Rostock below the lantern, visible from the beach. Visitors can see this detail up close when they reach the viewing platform.
Access is through a granite spiral staircase leading up to the observation platform. Opening hours run from spring through early October, usually from morning until early evening.
The light beam follows a fixed interval of 24 seconds, helping ships identify the location from far out at sea. This specific timing pattern distinguishes the tower from other signal stations along the Baltic coast.
