Kalkeifel-Radweg, Cycling trail through Eifel region, Germany
The Kalkeifel-Radweg is a cycling trail through the Eifel region that follows former railway routes and forest paths across limestone terrain. The route spans about 22 kilometers between Ahrdorf and Hillesheim-Bolsdorf.
This trail follows routes that were originally built for railways connecting limestone extraction areas. The path passes through regions where stone has been quarried for centuries and medieval fortifications still remain.
The limestone extraction that has shaped this area since Roman times remains visible in how the hills are formed and used today. Visitors walking the trail see the marks of this work everywhere in the landscape.
The route connects to other cycling paths and features gentle hills with moderate climbs and descents throughout. The mix of former railway lines and forest paths makes for relaxed riding without technical difficulty.
Along the route stands the Dreimühlen waterfall, fed by water from three spring tributaries. The flowing water deposits limestone, gradually building up a natural formation that visibly changes over the years.
