Sender Heide, Radio transmission station in Welmbüttel, Germany
Sender Heide is a radio transmission station in Welmbüttel featuring a steel lattice tower construction. The station rises 152 meters and stands as the tallest structure in the Dithmarschen district.
The facility was built in 1952 as part of the NWDR network with a 93-meter grid mast. The original structure served until 1988 when it was replaced with a contemporary solution.
The station broadcasts multiple NDR radio programs that connect residents of Schleswig-Holstein with regional news, music, and entertainment. These signals shape the daily rhythm of radio listening across the area.
The facility broadcasts via the DAB+ standard with vertical polarization, ensuring clear signal coverage throughout the region. Note that the tower is generally not open to the public for access.
The facility underwent a modernization in 2006 with reinforced guy-wires to support a new antenna tip for DVB-T broadcasting. This upgrade enabled television program transmission alongside radio signals.
