Richmodishaus und Richmodisturm
Richmodishaus und Richmodisturm, Medieval tower house in Altstadt-Nord, Germany.
The Richmodis House features an octagonal tower with distinctive horse heads protruding from its upper window at Neumarkt 8-10 in Cologne.
The building traces its origins to 1409 when Johann van dem Buchel acquired the estate, which later transformed into a palace for Emperor Maximilian I.
The structure incorporates architectural elements from Late Gothic and Dutch Early Renaissance styles, marked by a 28-meter spiral staircase tower.
The current building, reconstructed in 1928 by architect Paul Bonatz, maintains its historical facade while housing various retail establishments.
Two horse heads emerge from the tower window, referencing the medieval Richmodis von Aducht legend connected to the building's history.
