Kitzkammer

Kitzkammer features pentagonal and polygonal basalt columns formed between rock niches, creating distinctive geological patterns along the hiking trails.

The formation emerged during the late Tertiary period, approximately five million years ago, when lava flowed through surface cracks and crystallized perpendicular to the cooling surface.

The name Kitzkammer connects to Mother Holle folklore, where according to local tales, she imprisoned young girls and transformed them into kittens within the rock chamber.

Multiple hiking paths lead to Kitzkammer, including the Seesteine-Meißner loop from Laudenbach, spanning 7.05 kilometers through the natural landscape.

The rock formation functions as a chimney structure, displaying transverse columnar basalt arrangements that demonstrate the geological processes of ancient volcanic activity.
