Lörrach sculpture path, Sculpture trail in Lörrach, Germany
The Lörrach sculpture path is an art trail in parks and public spaces featuring around 23 different works and fountains. The sculptures are connected by pedestrian walkways and spread throughout the city area.
The art path was founded in 1986, when a main road near the border with France and Switzerland was converted into a pedestrian zone. This transformation of public space created the foundation for the art collection that has been part of the cityscape since then.
The path bears the names and stories of local artists, whose works appear at different points along the route. Residents use these spaces regularly as meeting points and resting spots while walking through the city.
The path is walkable year-round and begins at Burghof Lörrach, from where the artworks are reachable via connected pedestrian routes. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the route takes you through different parts of the city.
One of the works is a monumental glowing pyramid by Bruce Nauman that dominates the cityscape at night and stands apart from traditional sculptures. Another piece addresses the fate of Jewish families during the Nazi era, offering an important historical perspective.
