St. Catherine's Church

The Katharinenkirche displays intricate Gothic architecture with stone tracery windows and pointed arches extending along the Rhine River between Strasbourg and Cologne.

Construction of the church began after Oppenheim received city rights in 1225, with the eastern tower starting in 1262 and the nave construction documented in 1317.

The church contains the Oppenheimer Rose window from the 14th century, featuring detailed stone tracery and original medieval stained glass panels on the southern facade.

The Michael Chapel next to the church holds the remains of 20,000 Oppenheim citizens from 1400 to 1750, making it Germany's largest bone house.

The church features a Woehl organ built between 2004 and 2006, incorporating historical pipes from the 1871 Walcker instrument previously used by Max Reger.
