Kalteiche, Mountain summit in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Kalteiche is a mountain in the Rothaar range reaching about 580 meters and forming the highest point in the municipality of Wilnsdorf. The summit sits at the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse, with several hiking trails connecting to different viewpoints across the peak.
The mountain first appeared in written records in 1344 under the name Kaltenaich, establishing its place in regional history for centuries. A major turning point came in 2007 when Hurricane Kyrill devastated much of the forest and permanently altered the landscape.
Local inhabitants of the Siegen-Wittgenstein region maintain traditional connections through regular hiking activities and seasonal outdoor gatherings at the summit.
The summit is accessible via marked trails starting from different points around Wilnsdorf. The paths provide rest areas and orientation markers along the way to help hikers maintain their bearings.
The January 2007 Hurricane Kyrill caused substantial changes to the mountain landscape, altering the forest structure and creating new natural observation points.
