Melchenberg, Mountain summit in Reken, Germany
Melchenberg is a mountain in the Westmünsterland region that rises to 133.8 meters above sea level. Dense forests cover its northern slopes while several towers stand on its summit.
A water facility was established in 1968 on the mountain's slopes to operate wells for regional water supply. Telecommunications infrastructure was added later and has shaped the landscape since then.
The observation tower on Melchenberg opened to the public in 2002, enabling visitors to view landmarks across Münster and Gelsenkirchen from its 30-meter platform.
The mountain is reachable from Reken via local roads. An observation tower at the top offers views across the landscape, though accessibility can vary depending on weather conditions.
The summit holds two different towers with different functions standing side by side. One tower was originally used for military communications and is a rare example of this use in the region.
