Founded in 1226 by Bishop Heinrich II of Saarbrücken, the monastery transformed from a Cistercian nunnery to an Augustinian monastery in 1443.
The monastery served as an educational center where scholars like Johannes von Lambsheim produced significant theological works and manuscripts.
Located southwest of the outer city wall, the monastery was accessible through the Speyer Gate and maintained connections with local nobility.
During financial difficulties in 1382, the monastery had to disclose its finances and sell properties to address mounting debts.
