Kreuzbergkapelle, Mountain chapel at 263 meters in Arnsberg, Germany
The Kreuzbergkapelle stands between the Ruhr valley and Walpketal valley, featuring a neo-Gothic architectural design with a cruciform layout and bell tower spire.
Following the elevation of St. Laurentius Church to a provost church in 1859, citizens raised funds to construct fourteen stations of the Kreuzweg below the Old Castle.
The chapel marks the final point of the Kreuzweg procession, where believers gather on Good Friday to pray and participate in Easter Sunday torchlight ceremonies.
Several marked hiking trails lead to the chapel, including the popular Kreuzbergkapelle Arnsberg loop that extends 5.51 kilometers with a 130-meter elevation gain.
The Easter celebration includes lighting one of the largest fires in Sauerland between Kreuzberg and Alter Burg, followed by a fireworks display.
