Lichtscheider Wasserturm, Water tower in Wuppertal, Germany
The Lichtscheider Wasserturm is a concrete structure in Wuppertal that stores and distributes water to two southern districts of the city. The building has a shaft approximately 5 meters in diameter and holds about 1,500 cubic meters of water divided between two separate chambers.
The structure was built in 1975 and replaced an earlier facility that was demolished in 1977. The new construction was designed to secure water supply for the southern elevated areas of Wuppertal.
The tower marks the highest point in Wuppertal at 350 meters above sea level, serving as a reference point for the local community.
The tower is located on a hill in southern Wuppertal and can be seen from various points across the city. The best views of the structure are from the surrounding streets and residential areas nearby.
Following renovations in 2018, the structure was equipped with 600 LED lights that glow in different colors at night. This lighting makes the tower a striking feature of the city's nighttime view.
