Liebfrauenkirche

The Liebfrauenkirche stands as a double-story concrete structure near the district court, city theater, and Mercator Hall, incorporating materials such as natural stone and glass.

The current building, consecrated in 1961, replaced the neo-Gothic church from 1896 that was destroyed in 1942, with roots dating back to the 13th century.

The church transformed into an independent cultural center in 2013, hosting concerts, art exhibitions, and performances with over 33,000 visitors attending 300 events by 2023.

The church features a mechanical organ built by Franz Breil in 1964, containing 42 registers across four manuals and pedals, requiring 240,000 euros for restoration in 2021.

The facade displays a relief sculpture of Moses and the Burning Bush, created by Karl Heinz Türk in 1965, while interior furnishings originate from the Vatican Church at Brussels World Exhibition 1958.
