Maintor, Architectural complex in Frankfurt Financial District, Germany
MainTor is a modern architectural complex on the western edge of Frankfurt's Old Town with three towers of varying heights that open toward the Main River. The development connects the banking district to the river and includes offices, residences, and public spaces throughout the site.
The site was home to the chemical company Degussa from 1950 to 2001 with multiple buildings and an administrative center. After redevelopment, a new urban area emerged that combines both commercial and residential functions.
The complex respects its urban surroundings by preserving historical structures and creating new pedestrian routes that guide people through different neighborhoods. The architecture blends old and new building styles in a way that shapes the cityscape.
The complex is easy to reach on foot from downtown or the banking district and offers many open pathways to explore. Its location near the Main River makes it a good spot for a walk between Old Town and modern structures.
A preserved building from 1823 was integrated into the modern development, showing how old and new structures can exist side by side. This mix is visible to visitors as they move through the different levels and areas of the complex.
