Mariaspring, Natural spring in Bovenden, Germany
Mariaspring is a natural spring in Bovenden, located about 10 kilometers north of Göttingen, that feeds the Rauschenwasser stream. The site sits beneath Plesse Castle and comprises several structures on the grounds.
The site was first documented in 1483 with a chapel at its source. By the early 1800s it had developed into a paper mill and then became known as a restaurant destination.
During the early 1800s, students and citizens from Göttingen regularly visited Mariaspring in decorated carriages for concerts and dancing events.
The location now houses an education center with seminar rooms, accommodation options, and dining facilities. Groups of seven or more can arrange visits and events at the facility.
A postcard mailed from New York addressed only to 'Mariaspring-Deutschland' successfully reached its destination. This reflects how well-known the location was during certain periods.
