Medienfassade, Installation artwork at Bayer headquarters, Leverkusen, Germany
The Medienfassade was a digital art installation on a Bayer corporate building in Leverkusen, equipped with millions of LED lights covering its entire surface. The structure used a steel mesh network that could display videos and images across its vast exterior.
The installation was designed in 2007 by architect Wolfram Lusche, years after the high-rise building was constructed in 1963. The project ended in 2011 when technical problems led to its dismantling.
The facade displayed images and films related to the company's operations during the day on large screens, while glowing completely at night. This allowed passersby to experience the digital content and nighttime illumination from the surrounding area.
The work was visible from outside and could be viewed from various locations around the building. Visitors should note that the installation no longer exists today and is only documented through photographs.
The surface was coated with green plastic and featured blue interior lighting, which enhanced image contrast through the steel mesh. This color combination created a distinctive visual effect that improved the quality of images displayed on the facade.
