Meierei Langeoog, Historic dairy farm in Langeoog, Germany
Meierei Langeoog is a restaurant at the eastern end of Langeoog island, featuring brick construction and a sun terrace. The building grew from a historic agricultural site that transformed into a dining establishment while keeping its original character intact.
The site originated as an agricultural building in 1741, making it one of the earliest structures on the island. The building later transformed into a restaurant, though traces of its farming past remain visible.
The restaurant serves regional specialties made from local ingredients, including homemade buttermilk on dark bread and sea buckthorn products prepared using traditional methods. Diners experience food that reflects the island's coastal location and farming heritage through what they eat.
You can reach the restaurant by bicycle, on foot along the beach, or by horse-drawn carriage since the island has no cars. The eastern location makes it accessible for visitors using different ways of getting around.
The restaurant processes sea buckthorn berries picked by hand in late autumn to make juice and liqueur. Visitors can buy and taste these homemade products, which represent a local specialty found nowhere else on the island.
