St.Peter church Spiekeroog, Catholic church in Spiekeroog, Germany.
St. Peter is a church situated on a dune with an unusual polygonal pyramid form, its surface completely covered with copper plates. The interior uses movable wooden chairs, creating flexibility for religious services, concerts, and community events.
The building was completed in 1970 and designed by architect Walter Bunsmann. It marked the arrival of the newest Catholic sacred building among the East Frisian island churches of Lower Saxony.
The church serves a small Catholic community on an island where Protestant traditions are dominant and two other religious buildings stand nearby. The place shows how a minority faith maintains its presence within a differently rooted community.
The location sits on a dune, so the terrain should be considered when approaching. The interior is simple and functional, making it easy to explore the structure and participate in events held there.
Three narrow bands of windows run vertically from bottom to top of the structure, creating a continuous line of light. A central lamp hangs from the pyramid peak and directs light downward toward the altar.
