Nethestausee, reservoir in Germany
The Nethestausee is a reservoir near Bad Driburg fed by the Nethe river, covering approximately 4.5 hectares of water. Walking trails circle the shoreline, and nearby facilities include a camping site, sports field, and the Eggefreibad swimming area.
The reservoir was officially opened in 1975 after years of planning, dam construction, and water retention. Full development was completed in 1977 as a recreational facility offering boat rentals and other leisure activities from its inception.
The reservoir serves as a gathering spot where residents and visitors come together for outdoor relaxation and nature appreciation. The biennial lake festival demonstrates how the community embraces this location as a place for shared celebrations and recreational activities.
Entry is free with nearby parking, and the site is about 20 minutes by bus from Bad Driburg town center. A wheelchair-accessible fishing platform serves visitors with mobility needs, and multiple walking paths circle the water.
The site was officially blessed with water from Bad Driburg's renowned Caspar Heinrich spring, symbolically linking it to the town's heritage. This tradition was observed during the ceremonial opening in 1977 and reflects how the facility was designed as part of the community's identity from the start.
