The Museumsberg complex consists of two buildings with 3000 square meters of exhibition space displaying regional art and cultural artifacts from Schleswig.
Heinrich Sauermann, a furniture maker and wood carver, sold his private collection to Flensburg in 1876, establishing the foundation of the museum.
The museum houses one of Germany's largest furniture collections, containing over 900 pieces, along with paintings from Schleswig-Holstein artists from classicism to modernism.
The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, with limited wheelchair accessibility in both museum buildings.
The Heinrich-Sauermann-Haus displays original farmhouse parlors and features the Paris Room, created specifically for the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris.
