Märchenhain Niederheimbach, Fairy tale park in Niederheimbach, Germany.
Märchenhain Niederheimbach is a fairy tale park with life-sized replicas and scenes from classic stories, including character figures and structures set against Rhine Valley views. The site spreads across a plateau with different areas that represent various fairy tales and natural landscapes.
Sculptor Ernst Heilmann opened the park on July 2, 1931, on a plateau formed by a landslide above Niederheimbach. The site was thereby transformed based on this geological feature into a place for fairy tale figures.
The scenes depict Brothers Grimm stories with houses and figures inspired by local children, bringing German folklore into the community. This link between classic tales and the people who live nearby turned the place into a location where old stories became part of everyday life.
Access to the park requires climbing 132 steps that lead to the main area, where you will find a restaurant and bakery. Plan time for this climb and take advantage of the rest and food facilities available on the plateau.
The park attracted around 500,000 visitors by 1953 and served as a filming location for the 1952 film 'Einmal am Rhein' directed by Helmut Weiss. This early popularity shows how quickly the place became a well-known destination.
