Löcknitztal, Protected area in Grünheide (Mark), Germany
Löcknitztal is a protected nature reserve near Grünheide featuring meadows, wetlands, reed beds, and alluvial forests along a tributary stream. The area spans roughly 489 hectares and contains varied habitats in its valleys and floodplains.
The reserve gained official protection status in 1984 and was later registered as a Fauna-Flora-Habitat site in 1998. These designations established long-term safeguards for the ecosystem.
The valley has been referenced in literary works and remains an important part of the region's natural identity. Visitors today use this space for peaceful walks and wildlife observation.
You can reach the site on foot using a trail that connects Fangschleuse station to Hangelsberg, covering roughly 8 kilometers. Regular train service to both stations makes getting there from Berlin straightforward.
The reserve is home to around 100 bird species, over 450 butterfly species, and rare orchids alongside European pond turtles. This richness makes it particularly rewarding for nature watchers and researchers.
