Neustädter Elbufer, Riverside promenade in Dresden, Germany
Neustädter Elbufer is a two-kilometer waterfront strip along the Elbe River offering green spaces, walking paths, and views toward the city's historic districts. Several beer gardens dot the riverbank, including the Augustusgarten near Augustus Bridge and Elbsegler situated between the Blockhaus and Hotel Bellevue.
Between 1933 and 1936, the area was transformed into a green corridor with the creation of a rose garden containing thousands of rose bushes. This development made the waterfront an important recreational zone for the local population.
The waterfront hosts the annual Film Nights festival in front of the Ministry of Finance, where visitors gather for outdoor cinema under the sky. These events shape how locals and travelers experience this stretch of the Elbe.
The area is easy to explore on foot with plenty of seating along the promenade. The best time to visit is on warmer days when beer gardens are in full swing and the riverside paths are busy with walkers.
A 1940 sundial on the grounds marks an official surveying point in Dresden while also serving as decorative art. Visitors often walk past this dual-purpose monument without noticing its practical history.
