Park Dranske-Lancken, Park in Dranske, Germany
Park Dranske-Lancken is a baroque estate garden located on the Wittow Peninsula of Rügen Island, covering about three hectares with a central axis framed by tall linden trees. The interior features multiple pathways winding through overgrown vegetation and dense shrubland.
The baroque park was established between 1720 and 1730, making it one of the oldest surviving gardens of its kind in the region. Fieldstone walls that still stand today originally marked the estate's outer boundaries and continue to define the property.
The park contains the remains of a manor house from the 1720s that reflects local building traditions of that era. Walking through, visitors can sense how the estate once served as a center of rural life.
Wear sturdy footwear when visiting, as many pathways are uneven and wind through dense vegetation. Daytime visits work best since the park lacks artificial lighting and overgrown shrubs can make navigation difficult.
The grounds contain a sunken garden with steep embankments made of split fieldstone, measuring about 20 by 28 meters. This artificial depression was an integral part of the baroque garden's drainage system rather than purely decorative.
