Parkeisenbahn Halle is a miniature railway on Peissnitz Island that carries passengers on narrow-gauge tracks through gardens and around water features. The route runs several kilometers through different park areas with views of trees, lakes, and small bridges.
The railway opened in 1951 with narrow-gauge tracks measuring 381mm. It combines a steam locomotive from 1925 with modern battery-powered trains for everyday service.
Young people run the trains and manage the station, giving them hands-on experience in railway work. Visitors can see this youth involvement in action as they ride through the park.
The railway runs from March through November, so check online for current schedules before visiting. The grounds are easily accessible, and tickets are affordable for visitors of all ages, making it family-friendly.
Special night rides happen in October, letting passengers experience the illuminated tracks and lit park after dark. This seasonal event creates a completely different feel from daytime journeys.
