Pipinsburg, Medieval castle ruins in Geestland, Germany
Pipinsburg is a castle site located on the western edge of the Hohe Lieth ridge in Geestland. The fortress features a ring wall that rises approximately six meters high and clearly shows the circular layout of the original structure.
The site was built around 1000 on a strategically important ridge location. The fortress name first appeared in written records on a map dating to 1603.
The fortress was closely linked to the rulers of Bederkesa, whose power extended across the surrounding lands and influenced the region's development. This connection remains visible in how the ruins sit within the local landscape as a monument to their authority.
The ruins are open and accessible throughout the year without formal restrictions. The remote location means you should allow extra time for travel and bring your own transportation to reach the site.
The fortress once overlooked the Sieverner Aue waterway, which was navigable when the site served as a stronghold. This waterway was later eliminated through marshland drainage projects that reshaped the entire region.
