Schloss Behringen

Schloss Behringen is a building combining stone and timber-framed construction with Renaissance and Baroque elements. It features a distinctive bay window on its southern side and multiple courtyards that give the structure depth.

Friedrich von Wangenheim started building the current castle in 1547, and his family kept it until 1945. After World War II, the property went through several uses before it was converted into a hotel in the 1990s.

The castle was a gathering place for regional nobility where important meetings and social events took place. Visitors can still sense the atmosphere of these historical encounters in its rooms today.

The castle is now a fully accessible hotel designed for barrier-free access for all guests. Historical information is available on the ground floor where visitors can learn about the property's evolution.

During World War II the property sheltered refugees and later served as a psychiatric clinic. This varied history makes the castle a place where multiple phases of recent German history overlap.
